unique learning site

Just wanted to check in with everyone! I miss you all and hope to see you soon! The other site we can be working on is our Unique Learning. Each student has a login. We use this together in class but I am new to assigning it at home. I will keep working on it so its hopefully not so overwhelming. You don’t have to do every lesson but if you try for one a day that will keep your student’s mind active and it pretty much covers reading writing science and social studies.

The website is wwwn2y.com

kidsa-z

Hi!

I was able to get us a free subscription for this really great interactive reading site through the end of the year. As you may have seen we use printed books from this website that are adaptable to each student’s reading level. This version is  so super cool and I will definitely be applying for a permanent subscription to use from here on out! It’s an interactive reading lesson specific to each student. If possible, I would like students to do one episode per day while we are out. I will be able to see what is completed and I will be giving out huge treasure box rewards for everyone who has done this over our extended break!

Please check it out! I have left a special message for each student and I will be able to see the work you’re doing!

Here are the instructions:

log in to www.kidsa-z.com. You get the app for ipad or your phone or either just use a browser.

enter the teacher username-Teacher Amy1

you should see your student’s name-here are the passwords  (click on the picture):

Chloe-fish

Ellynie-cat

Hovan-rocketship

Kazarriah-bunny

Mika-airplane

The first lesson is a placement test and then it takes you to an “episode” which is about 20 minutes long.

Please let me know any questions. Ty!!

Occupation Therapy Activities

This was sent to me by our occupational therapist. I know it is a little harder to complete any of these activities at home. These are some things that will help our kids that are in therapy or if not it is still helpful for handwriting, cutting, typing, and other fine motor skills. I’ve really missed your kids..and it has only been  1 day! 🙂

Hello wonderful families!  I hope you are all staying well and healthy during this time.  I would like to provide some ideas for you all to do at home to help your amazing kiddos out while schools are closed.  Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the activities I have provided.

Handwriting

https://www.lwtears.com/resources/top-10-classroom-downloads – Handwriting without Tears has given all families free access for 90 days to many of their worksheets.  Please look around the website for what is most appropriate for your child and download that worksheet. This is a great resource for any family.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rcTCNKgl_3CL1-QhfiNW03jyF–h7twd2s1PnJXNBhI/edit – This is a parent handout I have to discuss the use of the Handy Learning protocol and with various activities to promote handwriitng grasp and precision.  If you are having trouble accessing this file, let me know and I will share it with you in Google Docs.

Typing

https://www.typingclub.com/ – I use Typing Club.com with many of the students I am working on typing skills with right now.  It is great practice with an onscreen visual component for finger placement that helps improve fluency and speed during typing tasks.

Cutting

https://www.ot-mom-learning-activities.com/cutting-activities.html – There are some great ideas on this page for practicing cutting skills at home.

Sensory supports

https://www.sensorysmarts.com/sensory_diet_activities.html – Some great movement activities for sensory supports are listed on this page.  Have your child (safely) perform some of the activities listed before requiring them to sit and do any type of tabletop work.

https://www.gonoodle.com/ – Your kids probably know of these videos already.  These are frequently used in classrooms before instruction.  These are great songs with a lot of movement incorporated.

If you have any questions, I am always available via email at [email protected].  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need to.

Thank you,

Misty Weedon, OTA

Websites for our time off

Dear Lifeskills Parents,
I wanted to put together a list of some of the educational websites that we use in class to hopefully keep our students on track (and busy! 🙂 during this break. We usually do the work together as a group and if there is a paper activity we do it first online and then do it step by step on paper. I will miss your kids and be prayerful that we all stay safe and healthy!

There is a parent site being set up for this school break time but I haven’t been able to access it yet. I will be in touch when I am able to contact them on Monday. My understanding is that the paper packet will be available at school on Tuesday.
