Thursday! I Know a Rhino!

This is a great book for our class because we LOVE stuffed animals. My 12 year old still has a closet full! Today we are practicing rhyming words. I will show you the modification I use for kids who struggle with this. We are trying to match the last two phonics sounds. It’s hard to hear of you have a speech problem!

Here is our worksheet.  You can color it if you want to!

Monday-Peeps Experiment!

Today is our fun experiment with Peeps! Here is a Peeps recording sheet to keep track.

PEEPS-Experiments-Sheet

We are going to put the Peeps in 3 environments and record what happens. This is an IEP Science goal for several students-to understand the differences made to a substance by heating and cooling.

  1. Put a Peep in water. Make a prediction if you think it will FLOAT or DISSOLVE?

2. Put a Peep in the microwave. Will it get hot or cold?

3. Put a Peep in the freezer. Will it get hot or cold?

Yay!! Now you can eat the rest of the Peeps! Good experiment!

Here are some cute pictures people have made with Peeps! Can you guess which movie it is supposed to be?

See you tomorrow-we are back to books!

Friday! Easter Eggs!

Today we are going to dye Easter eggs with food coloring and shaving cream. We did this in class last year and it was pretty fun. I think my assistant this time added too much shaving cream (never the teacher’s fault!)..and I also think liquid food coloring is better.

  1. Spray shaving cream into a muffin tin
  2. Put a few drops of food coloring in each cup.
  3. Set your eggs in the cup and swirl it around.
  4. Set a timer for 15 minutes.
  5. Rinse your eggs with cold water and done!

You can record your experiment on the worksheet.

Happy Easter!! See you on Monday for a fun experiment with Peeps!

Thursday! If You Give a Moose a Muffin!

You guessed it! Today we are making muffins! We are practicing cause and effect with If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff.

We are also practicing using ten frames to “subitize” or recognize amounts without having to manually count. This is a skill our class really needs to practice. Here is a ten frame worksheet and our favorite song about Subitize-Jack Hartmann!

Also..Friday and Monday are holidays because of Easter. I will not be reading on these days but I am going to  post some Easter science experiments! You will need your shaving cream from Monday and some Peeps from your Easter candy. I am proud of everyone for working hard!

Tuesday! Bear Hunt!

Today we are going on a Bear Hunt! We are going to review all of the landforms and practice remembering the sequence with a map. The map worksheet is below if you can print! There  is also a fun video of the Bear Hunt Song.

Also I want to let you know that Mystery Doug, (our favorite science guy!!) is going to be live today at 12 pm answering kids questions. Our class enjoys voting for the next topic each week so it will be cool to see live action! If you miss it it will be recorded!

Monday! Making Snow!

Happy Monday! Today we are reading Skippyjon Jones-Snow What! We are practicing using context clues. Today’s cool experiment is to make “snow” with baking soda and shaving cream. Check out the pictures below! I used about half a box to 4 or 5 squirts of shaving cream, depending on how much you want. It’s for sensory fun and is very relaxing for our class! Lots of fun things to come this week!

Friday-Cooking Day! Thundercake!

Today we are reading one of my favorite books, Thundercake, by Patricia Palacco. In this story a little girl and her grandmother gather ingredients for a chocolate cake and she learns not to be afraid of a storm. We practice remembering the ingredients and counting to 10.  Here are some pictures of my cooking assistant making a cake like the one in the story. Today’s assignment is to make a recipe with your family. Have a great weekend!
